What is a Monzonaut?

You might have seen us use the term "Monzonauts" or "former Monzonauts" on the site. So, what does it mean?

Within Monzo, employees are affectionately known as "Monzonauts". It's a term that captures the adventurous and pioneering spirit of the team building the bank.

When Monzonauts move on to new ventures, they often become known in the community as "Alumnauts" – a nod to their alumni status and their continued journey in the tech and startup world.

The term "Monzonauts" itself, along with Monzo's distinctive hot coral brand identity, was coined by Hugo Cornejo, one of Monzo's co-founders and its original Head of Design. It reflects the unique culture and camaraderie fostered at Monzo.

At Monzonauts.com, we use these terms to celebrate the people who, having contributed to Monzo's success, are now building exciting new companies.
